For Sofía Askenazi, fashion has always been part of who she is. Born and raised in Mexico City, she developed a passion for style at a young age. After marrying and raising three sons, she built a successful clothing manufacturing business supplying major department stores throughout Mexico. Yet her dream was always to open a boutique of her own.

Years later, that dream followed her to San Miguel de Allende when Sofía brought her experience and eye for style to San Miguel, opening Sofía’s Boutique as a new chapter in her career.

Today, Sofía's Boutique has become a destination in its own right—known by longtime residents, returning visitors, and first-time travelers alike. Many women make a stop at her boutique part of every visit to San Miguel, returning season after season not only for her carefully curated collections, but for the warm conversations and friendships they've built along the way.

Sofía has thoughtfully shaped the boutique around a woman she knows well: the woman who wants to look modern, elegant, and above all comfortable. She believes style should inspire confidence at every stage of life, offering versatile, fresh, and flattering pieces designed for everything from exploring San Miguel's cobblestone streets to enjoying dinner on a rooftop terrace.

What first brought you to San Miguel—and what made you stay?

What first brought me to San Miguel was my partner. We have been together for more than 30 years, and for years he owned a weekend home in San Miguel, always dreaming of retiring here after his career in Mexico City. At first, I wasn't sure I could leave the energy of the big city behind—I loved that lifestyle. But little by little, I fell in love with San Miguel. Today, I am truly happy living here and can't imagine calling anywhere else home.

What are you building, nurturing, or contributing to here?

When I moved to San Miguel, I also relocated my business and opened Sofía's Boutique. Every encounter with people from around the world reminds me why I chose to build both my life and my business here.

In my boutique, I don't just offer clothing—I share a way of life. I created it for mature women who want to look modern, elegant, and above all, feel comfortable and confident in versatile, fresh, and flattering pieces that are perfect for enjoying the streets of San Miguel.

How do you connect with or support the community?

One of my greatest satisfactions is helping others discover the magic of San Miguel because I experience it every day myself.

Over the years, I've had the opportunity to meet extraordinary women, both residents and visitors. More than selling clothing, I build relationships. I listen, offer advice, and share moments that often turn into lasting friendships.

What does a typical day in San Miguel look like for you?

My day starts with a walk in the countryside with my little dog. I feel fortunate to live just a ten minute drive from downtown, surrounded by nature.

After a good breakfast, I head to work. Walking through San Miguel is always a pleasure.

The cobblestone streets, colorful facades, bougainvillea, and hidden courtyards turn every corner into a postcard. Those of us who have the privilege of living here discover that San Miguel's charm isn't just something you see—it's something you feel.

What has San Miguel given you—and what do you hope to give back?

San Miguel opened the door to a new way of living. It has given me friendships that have become family and the opportunity to grow both personally and as a business owner. It has also taught me that success is measured not only by work, but by quality of life.

I hope to give back a small part of everything this city has given me through my work, my commitment, and my love for San Miguel.
