Meet Sandra
Sandra Vázquez is a hospitality entrepreneur and brand visionary whose work has helped shape the contemporary culinary and cultural landscape of San Miguel. As CEO and cofounder of Levain & Co., she leads a multi-brand group that includes beloved spaces like Panio, Cumpanio, and Hortus—places where design, flavor, and community intersect. With a background that spans international fashion, luxury spirits, and experiential marketing, Sandra brings a global perspective to everything she builds. Rooted in creativity yet grounded in strategy, she continues to redefine what thoughtful, design-driven hospitality can look like in a city that thrives on possibility.

What first brought you to San Miguel—and what made you stay?
I first came to San Miguel because of love and opportunity. What made me stay was the sense of possibility. This city has a rare combination of beauty, culture, and community. It’s a place where you can build something meaningful and people truly show up for it. Over time, it stopped being a destination and became home — for my family and for the brands we’ve built.
What are you building, nurturing, or contributing to here?
I’m building spaces where people gather around a table. Through Panio, Cumpanio, and Hortus, I’m nurturing community — places where bread is shared, conversations unfold, and hospitality feels personal.
"Cumpanio was born from the idea that “where bread is broken, a story begins.” It’s about companionship and everyday rituals. Hortus, on the other hand, allows us to explore creativity, seasonality, and the garden as a metaphor for growth."
Beyond the restaurants, I’m contributing to a culture of conscious entrepreneurship — showing that hospitality can be beautiful, profitable, and responsible at the same time.

How do you connect with or support the community?
We collaborate constantly — with local producers, winemakers, designers, and NGOs. We open our spaces for events, talks, workshops, and celebrations.
For me, supporting the community isn’t a campaign — it’s daily practice. It’s choosing local ingredients, mentoring young professionals, hosting gatherings, and making sure our businesses create real jobs and opportunities.
What does a typical day in San Miguel look like for you?
I wake up early. I exercise — Pilates or tennis — then have breakfast before heading into meetings across our locations. My days move between strategy, branding, and operations. I might review numbers in the morning, taste a new bread or cocktail in the afternoon, and end the day in conversation with my kids at home.
"San Miguel allows for that balance — ambition and beauty in the same day."

What has San Miguel given you—and what do you hope to give back?
San Miguel has given me community, resilience, and perspective. It has allowed me to grow as an entrepreneur and as a mother.
I hope to give back spaces that elevate the everyday — places that nourish, inspire, and connect people. And I hope our work contributes to a more thoughtful, design-driven, and sustainable hospitality culture here.
Fast 5
One word that describes San Miguel: Possibility.
Your favorite place to gather with friends: Around a long table at Cumpanio — or in the garden at Hortus at sunset.
The season you love most in town: Fall. The light is softer, the air is crisp, and the city feels cinematic.
A local business, cause, or space you love supporting: There are so many! But right now I'm getting more involved in Caminos de Agua — because water sustainability is fundamental to our future here.
A view you never take for granted: The Siquieros mural at Bellas Artes. It still stops me every time.
