For Josefina Carballido, it was a leap of faith—and a corazonada.

After a successful career in interior design in Guadalajara, Josefina made the life-changing decision to leave behind her home, her business, and everything familiar to begin again in San Miguel de Allende. She can't fully explain what drew her here. It was the city's beauty, its energy, and an instinctive feeling that this was where she was meant to build her next chapter.

That chapter became Casa R Concept Store.

Drawing on years of experience in interior design, fashion, and home décor, Josefina created a space that celebrates the extraordinary talent of Mexican designers. The concept store features an eclectic yet carefully curated collection of high-end Mexican fashion, jewelry, handbags, hats, home décor, and artisan-made pieces, showcasing both established and emerging designers whose craftsmanship rivals the world's finest couture.

From the very beginning, Casa R became a family project. Josefina credits her son, David—whose creativity helped shape the vision—as one of the greatest supporters behind the store.

Josefina is passionate about introducing both visitors and locals to the extraordinary talent of Mexican creators. Through Casa R, she has created a space where discovering a beautiful piece also means discovering the story, artistry, and tradition behind it. Every visit is an invitation to experience the sophistication of modern Mexico through exceptional design, warm hospitality, and a deep appreciation for the people who create it.

What first brought you to San Miguel—and what made you stay?

I was drawn to San Miguel by its energy, its beauty, and a feeling deep inside that this was where I wanted to build my life. Leaving my home and business in Guadalajara was a radical change, but from the moment I arrived, I knew I had made the right decision. Some places simply speak to your heart, and San Miguel was one of them.

What are you building, nurturing, or contributing to here?

Through Casa R Concept Store, I wanted to bring the beauty of Mexican design to San Miguel while showcasing the incredible work of Mexican fashion designers with international potential.

Everything we do celebrates creativity, craftsmanship, and emerging talent while sharing the richness of Mexican design with visitors from around the world.

How do you connect with or support the community?

We create jobs, build meaningful relationships with our clients, and support talented Mexican designers by introducing their work to people from all over the world.

Every person who visits Casa R becomes part of the experience.

What does a typical day in San Miguel look like for you?

There really isn't a typical day in San Miguel.

The city is always surprising you with its celebrations, its people, and its incredible energy. Everyone seems eager to meet one another, learn from each other, and share experiences. That openness has created a truly multicultural community where every day brings something new.

What has San Miguel given you—and what do you hope to give back?

San Miguel has given me so much love, endless learning, and a new family.

Through Casa R, all of us who are part of the project hope to share a warm and authentic image of Mexico with people from around the world, creating an experience they will always remember.
